Flat Sheet Membrane Fabrication
Flat sheet membranes are essential components in various separation processes, including water purification, wastewater treatment, gas separation, and biomedical applications. At START Centre, we specialize in the fabrication of high-performance flat sheet membranes tailored for diverse industrial and research needs. Our advanced manufacturing capabilities allow us to produce membranes up to 1 meter wide, supporting the development and scaling of innovative separation technologies. By leveraging state-of-the-art equipment and expertise, we enable research institutions and industry partners to refine, test, and commercialize next-generation membrane solutions.

Hollow Fibre Membrane Fabrication
Hollow fibre membranes are widely used in applications such as water filtration, wastewater treatment, gas separation, and biomedical processes due to their high surface area and efficient separation performance. At START Centre, our industrial scale Hollow Fibre Fabrication Line enables the development of durable and high-performance membranes for various industries. Our expertise includes customising fibre dimensions, materials, and properties to meet specific application needs.

Module Design & Construction
At START Centre, we provide comprehensive expertise in membrane module design and construction, ensuring optimal performance for various separation applications. Our capabilities include the development of both flat sheet and hollow fibre membrane modules, with customized configurations to meet specific industry and research requirements. For hollow fibre membranes, we design and build modules ranging from 1-inch to 8-inch in diameter, tailored for applications in water treatment, gas separation, and biomedical fields. Our state-of-the-art facilities and engineering expertise allow us to support research institutions and industrial partners in scaling up innovative membrane technologies from concept to commercial-ready products.

Systems & Piloting
START Centre provides end-to-end support for membrane-based system development, from design to real-world validation. Our expertise extends beyond membrane and module fabrication to the integration of these technologies into complete systems for various applications, including water treatment, wastewater reuse, and industrial separations. Our experts specialize in translating technologies from TRL 3 to beyond TRL 7, bridging the gap between concept validation and operational readiness. We offer piloting capabilities to test and optimize system performance under real operating conditions, enabling our research and industry partners to accelerate the commercialization of next-generation separation technologies.

Integrated Validation Plant
START Centre moved into its second phase in October 2021. One of the key areas we have undertaken is the setup and operation of a demonstration-scale (~1 MGD) Integrated Validation Plant for seawater desalination. The main purpose of this plant is to select and test, in collaboration with PUB, cutting-edge technologies at various stages in the entire desalination process at scale, with the objective of driving down the overall energy cost, and achieving process optimization. These results obtained will provide significant inputs towards energy reduction opportunities for new desalination plants, as well as retrofitting existing plants in Singapore.
