Dr. Adil Dhalla, Managing Director of START Centre, delivered a plenary talk on “Bridging the Gap: From Membrane Innovation to Commercialization” on April 3, 2025, at FILTCON25.
Singapore is a global leader in membrane-based innovations, but taking breakthrough technologies from the lab to full-scale implementation remains a challenge. Dr. Dhalla shared how the Singapore Membrane Consortium (SG-MEM) and the START Centre are transforming early-stage membrane inventions into commercially viable solutions. He shared on real-world pilot testing, industry partnerships, and a demonstration-scale (1 MGD) seawater desalination validation plant.
Dr. Dhalla was also part of the panel on “Advances and New Developments in Membrane/Filtration”. Together, they discussed the latest advances in membrane materials, sustainability efforts, high-throughput technologies, and the growing role of AI/ML and unconventional manufacturing methods in driving innovation in the filtration industry.
